Hidey-Ho!
Just getting started with MySQL in Panther, and need some advice on
tools & references.
I used to do database stuff in 4D a long time ago, so I know something
about relational database design for single-user apps. This makes me a
15 years out of date newbie!
Anyway I'd like to use an SQL-compliant engine in Cocoa apps (probably
SQLite or Core Data when it becomes public), at some point. I'd also
like to use MySQL for some projects, and for working out designs. I
picked MySQL because it seems like a good (and free) way to go for
this, and there are lots of tools, and I can use the terminal without
actually coding. I know there are a lot of differences between the two,
but most of the design techniques should be the same (except the field
types..harumph).
I've made some headway with the man pages and tools like CocoaMySQL
(excellent!). I also just got the O'Reilly "MySQL Cookbook", which is
good for a no-Unix-background type like me. However I'd like to get a
good book for designing modern databases, multi-user and threaded and
all that good stuff. Is the other book by the same author (Paul DuBois)
a good one? Or is there some other way to go, like a book that's not
focused on SQL?
Thx
Mike
